Join us Sunday mornings at 10:15 for our worship gathering!
What to Expect Sunday Morning
There are no perfect people here at College Acres, only the worship of a perfect Savior. Charles Spurgeon has declared, “If I had never joined a church till I had found one that was perfect, I should never have joined one at all; and the moment I did join it, if I had found one, I should have spoiled it, for it would not have been a perfect church after I had become a member of it. Still, imperfect as it is, it is the dearest place on earth to us.” In every way that mankind is tempted, so is every Christian. However, as Christians we are forgiven, redeemed, and filled with the Spirit of God which produces in us a love for God’s glory, a desire to be more like Christ, and a newfound hatred of indwelling sin. The church is not for people who think they are righteous; it is for a people who know that they are not. Welcome!
Although true worship is in all of life, in corporate listening to sermons, in the reading of scripture, our giving, our prayers, in serving and our proclaiming the gospel with others, we believe that singing serves as an expression of our teaching and learning truths concerning Jesus Christ and the gospel. Therefore, we seek music which possesses high theological truth and instruction. Every Sunday we sing four to five worship songs together. These songs typically represent both the old and new within church history (praise, worship, and hymns). Our worship flows from our response to the truths we sing. We also seek to sing joyfully and in gratitude as we make declaration of the God who is worthy of all our worship and joy-filled praise. Meaning, we seek to worship God in both spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). While we use instruments within our services, our greatest and most cherished instrument is our singing voices. We desire for nothing to distract from this reality (Ps. 96:1-3).
Sunday morning allows us to prioritize preaching which explains the bible and exalts Jesus Christ. You will notice two values which surface over and again from our preachers - high theology and high transparency. Meaning, we desire to focus our attention on the scripture itself, teaching the biblical text clearly, accurately, and theologically. We also want to be transparent about how the biblical text has impacted our lives and challenged us to follow Jesus Christ as well. Our prayer is that our preaching helps establish within all of us a robust knowledge, love, and desire for more of God’s Word being on full display in our services. Here at College Acres, you will hear us talk about the gospel a lot and depend on its power for transformation and growth, personally and as the body of Christ.
It is our sincerest desire that you find College Acres to be a warm and welcoming people. This is seen in by our people coming early for coffee, conversation, and prayer; sticking around after the service to enjoy one other; or making plans for later. You may even hear babies crying and little feet scampering as we love children and their presence to us is a gift, and a reminder that our church is growing.
Sunday mornings, we have a preschool class for kids, ages 18 months - preschool. If you would like a Worship Bag for your elementary aged child, let one of our greeters know! If you have a baby, we also have a parent's room in the lobby with rockers and a tv to watch the service.
Come as you are! We have folks who wear suits, ties, and dresses, as well as those who wear pants, jeans, flannel shirts, and t-shirts. In whatever you choose to wear , we simply ask you to seek modesty.
We enjoy music representing the old and the new. We sing both old and new hymns as well as contemporary worship music. Most importantly, we desire for our music to be God-centered, gospel-saturated, and theologically rich in content.
